Ever wonder what the common denominators are that lead to divorce? These top 10 factors below are the common factors that are causing more divorces than any other. Hopefully you find them insightful...and maybe just a bit helpful. Enjoy!
1. The Communication Gap
The leading cause of divorce by a unanimous decision is communication – be it communication gaps or a total absence. In one US study, when asked to cite the reason for their separation, 70% of women attributed their divorce to an issue with communication. These numbers are alarmingly high but largely consistent amongst the numerous studies.

2. Infidelity
Although the number totals vary slightly, studies have shown that infidelity and betrayal is a contributing factor in roughly 30% of all divorces granted – give or take. That said, it may come as no surprise that men are more than twice as likely to cheat than their female counterpart.

3. Financial Problems
General stress is a leading contributor to divorce in the US; however, the leading stressor is clearly financial. Couples with a lower debt to income ratio typically enjoy a more harmonious marriage. As an example, according to Barbara Whitehead and David Popenoe's The State of Our Unions, a couple with a healthy annual income of over $50,000, decreases their risk of divorce by 30%.

4. Growing Apart
As couples grow older, many grow into each other while others inevitably grow apart. Chalk it up to a mid-life crisis or a simple shift in priorities but a recent UK study credits 17% of divorces to growing apart. When an individual rejects their partner’s personal evolution, it can create a lot of negativity within a relationship.

5. Entrepreneurship
Going into business for one’s self is a rocky road full of risk, sleepless nights, investment in time, financial stress and complex financial relationships. Considering financial problems are a leading contributor to divorce, it is of little surprise that entrepreneurs and small business owners are far more likely to experience a divorce than those with safe and steady employment.

6. The In-Laws
You’ve seen it personified on TV’s Everybody Loves Raymond, but in-laws are a noted contributor to divorce – especially amongst younger couples. In an online poll taken by DivorceMagazine.com, 6% of those in question claimed that their in-laws were fully responsible for their divorce and an additional 35% admitted that their in-laws were a contributing factor.

7. Shades of Abuse
Whether it’s psychological, emotional or physical abuse, an abusive environment is never an incubator for a healthy relationship. Although the number in reality is probably much higher (because some can’t recognize when they’ve been abused), a 2004 study attributes 17% of divorces to emotional and/or physical abuse.

8. Addiction
Whatever the vice may be, addictions can be cited for much of the worldwide divorce rate. One study shows that gambling and workaholic tendencies each account for 6% of divorces while another study shows that 30% of women can credit their divorce to an alcohol abuse addiction within their former husband. From pornography to drug abuse, addictions are a deadly ingredient to any marriage.

9. Sexual Frequency
It may come as no surprise to know that the sexual activity between spouses can be a driving force or a nail in the coffin. Because sex plays such an enormous role in an intimate relationship, if a couple is not on the same page sexually, it can easily create an emotional distance.

10. Nevada, USA
The United States experiences more divorce than any other country in the world (4.95 per 1,000 people). To add to that, the state of Nevada has the highest divorce rate (approx 8%) and thanks to Las Vegas, has owned that role for decades. That said, there are endless reasons for divorce but statistics show that your chances for marital success decrease drastically when you’re married in Nevada, USA.
